| It continued to rain for two days after I left Fairbanks and I took very few panos. I drove right through the Alaska Range without seeing the mountains and camped in freezing rain. So it was nice to check into a log cabin motel in Valdez, get warm and have a good meal.
Valdez is a major fishing port, the southern end and marine terminal for the Alaska Pipeline, and a major tourist attraction. The scenery is wonderful, glacier-capped mountains rising right from the sea. The weather forecast for the next day was encouraging so I got a ticket for the sightseeing cruise around Prince William Sound. |
