16 Gold Dredge Number 4
Gold Dredge Number 4 National Historic Site of Canada, Dawson City, Yukon Territory, Canada

number_name

Built in 1913, Gold Dredge Number 4 was one of several dredges working on Bonanza Creek and the Klondike River. They slowly ate their way through the gold-bearing gravels, each floating in its own pond that it continuously dug out in front and filled behind itself.

Number 4 was abandoned when it stopped being profitable in 1959. It gradually fell into disrepair, sinking in its pond. But eventually its historical significance was recognized and it was adopted by Parks Canada. Restoration continues today and it is one of the main tourist attractions of the Klondike gold country.
