Squaw Valley
Olympic Valley in Tahoe National Forest California

Squaw Valley was built by private interests for the 1960 Winter Olympics, and truly began the modern era of downhill skiing in California.

Many of the facilities built for the Olympics are now derelict or gone, and no bobsled run was ever constructed. The highest lifts reach 9000 feet with the village at 6500 feet and annual snowfall often totals 40 feet or more.
