Highway 50 over Echo Summit
El Dorado National Forest California

The original Lincoln Highway crossed the Sierra at Echo Summit, the route now taken by Highway 50. This was one of the emigrant trails of the 1840's and 50's, with a stretch near Lovers Leap where wagons had to emptied and lowered down the bedrock slope with ropes.
