Lower Russian River

The Russian River runs for most of its length through the sunny hills and vineyards of Sonoma County, then turns west and enters the redwood forest. This lower stretch is known for its vacation cabins and small resort towns.

Some very tall redwoods are still to be found in side canyons, at Armstrong Redwoods and the privately held Bohemian Grove. This is a flood-prone river and high water is a recurrent crisis in Guerneville.
