Butte Valley is a connected series of flat-bottomed spaces between lava ridges and cinder cones north of Mount Shasta. The low lying areas are mostly pasture but strawberries are also grown.
Sharp-eyed travellers on Highway 97 often see pronghorn antelope in the grasslands near Macdoel, especially early and late in the day.
