Pit River
Modoc. Klamath, and Shasta-Trinity National Forests, California

The Pit River rises in a broad arc of springs and boggy meadows, then cuts across the Cascade divide to dlow down into Lake Shasta and the Sacramento River. The river was developed long ago with a series of hydroelectric dams, diverions, and powerhouses.
