Lassen Volcanic National Park, California

Lassen peak erupted violently and spectacularly from 1915 to 1917. The main park road passes throught eh Devestated SArea from that eruption, with fading evidence of blowdowns and mudlfows. It loops high over the shoulder of the peak, almost to timberline, in an area that has recorded some of the heaviset snowfalls on earth. The park road is seldom clear of snow before early July.
