Coast Trail
Point Reyes National Seashore California

The Coast Trail starts at Coast Camp near Limantour and continues south past Arch Rock all the way to Wildcat Camp. That entire distance is through the Philip Burton Wilderness. I have hiked it many times, both day hikes and overnight backpacks. North of Arch Rock it is an old ranch road, a wide smooth gravel path (no vehicles or even bicycles allowed), but south of there it is a narrow foot path for a few miles. For its entire length it is right along the coast, on the terrace or bluffs.

One of the great multi-day hikes in California is the Point Reyes backpack loop. There are four camps: Coast, Sky, Glenn, and Wildcat. They can all be reached easily by starting from the nearest roadhead, and many people do this, just spending one night. But much better is to string them together and hike for several days entirely within the wilderness.
