Virtual Guidebook to Yosemite and the Central Sierra Nevada
Yosemite Village
Yosemite National Park California

Casual visitors may not realize how much urban infrastructure there is in Yosemite Valley, most of it concentrated in Yosemite Village. The public facilities include the Visitor Center, post office, historic cemetery, Museum, Ansel Adams Gallery, Village Store, and two restaurants.

Less visible are the garage, courthouse/jail, maintenance buildings, hospital, and office buildings. There are also numerous residences, a school, and a playground/ballfield. In all, about one thousand people live permanently in the valley.

We had to buy new snow chains at the Yosemite Garage in Yosemite Village. The guys at the garage are kept busy in winter with cars that won't start and inexperienced drivers who slide off the road.
